Bakersfield, CA (September 26, 2024) The community of Bakersfield was saddened to learn of a pedestrian’s death on Thursday morning, September 26th, 2024. The accident occurred just after midnight as a man was pushing a disabled vehicle along 7th Standard Street. Another vehicle struck the man, killing him, officers reported.

Around midnight on Thursday morning, September 26th, a man began pushing a vehicle that had died, reports indicated. As he pushed the vehicle along 7th Standard Road, a vehicle would occasionally pass by the man and his disabled car. At approximately 12:05 a.m., a vehicle approached, and for reasons that remain unknown, struck the man from behind as he pushed the dead vehicle. The driver immediately realized what happened and came to a stop.

The Bakersfield Police Department arrived at the 3200 block of 7th Standard Road, not far from Zachary Avenue, and found the man in the middle of the roadway. Officers rushed to the victim’s side, ready to administer life-saving treatment, but found that he had been killed in the accident and nothing could be done. With heavy hearts, they pronounced him dead at the scene and called for a coroner.

Officers are working to determine what exactly happened to cause this fatal accident in Bakersfield. At this time, they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in this accident.
