Van Nuys, CA (October 14, 2024) A two-vehicle collision in Van Nuys claimed a life on Sunday morning, October 12th, 2024. 27-year-old Carolina Hernandez Garcia, 27, was killed in the deadly accident on the San Diego (405) Freeway. It happened around 5:20 a.m., near Sherman Way, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The early morning in Van Nuys was dark as vehicles drove along the San Diego (405) Freeway. At approximately 5:20 a.m., a black Ford F-150 pickup truck and another vehicle collided in the northbound lanes. The collision left the two vehicles with major damage, sitting in the middle of the 405 Freeway’s northbound lanes, according to reports. Glass and debris covered the roadway as well, causing traffic hazards.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and, unfortunately, found Garcia unresponsive. Sadly, Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene and officers requested a coroner from the Medical Examiner’s Office. The northbound lanes were closed at Sherman Way as officers gathered information and investigated the scene. A tow truck arrived to remove at least one of the damaged vehicles and crews worked as quickly as they could to remove the glass and debris from the roadway.
