2 Killed, 2-Year-Old Critically Injured, Police Officers Injured In Bakersfield Crash

2 police officers injured in Anaheim crash.

Bakersfield, CA (October 14, 2024) The community of Bakersfield awoke to devastating news on Sunday morning, October 13th, 2024. At approximately 5:40 a.m., a vehicle ran a stop sign and hit a Bakersfield Patrol Car. The collision claimed two lives and left a 2-year-old child with life-threatening injuries. Two officers also sustained injuries in this accident, reports indicated.

A Bakersfield Police Department patrol vehicle was heading west on Niles Street as a speeding vehicle drove along Kern Street. Witnesses told police officers that the vehicle on Kern Street ran the stop sign at the intersection and slammed into the BPD Patrol vehicle. Upon impact, the driver was thrown from the vehicle and the two police officers in the patrol car called for help.

More officers with the Bakersfield Police Department quickly made their way to the scene at Niles Street and Kern Street. They found the two vehicles badly damaged and hurried to find anyone in need of medical care. The man who had been ejected was found deceased, according to reports. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. The front passenger, a woman, had sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision. A 2-year-old child was also found in the backseat of the vehicle with critical injuries. Paramedics rushed the woman and child to a nearby hospital to receive treatment. Sadly, the woman passed away and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The two-year-old remains in critical condition.The two officers involved in the accident were taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries, according to reports.
