Sutter County, CA (October 14, 2024) A 25-year-old was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 99 in Sutter County on Sunday morning, October 13th, 2024. The accident occurred at 2:30 a.m., not far from Highway 70, and left a 45-year-old man with serious injuries.
It was the middle of the night in Sutter County as a 25-year-old drove a Chrysler Pacifica along Highway 99. As it headed south, the vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic. A GMC, driven by a 46-year-old man, was headed north at the same time. The two vehicles collided at a high rate of speed in the northbound lanes at approximately 2:30 in the morning. Officers at the scene have referred to this accident as “brutal,” according to reports.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the two vehicles with major damage, sitting in the middle of the northbound lanes of Highway 99. They rushed to the vehicles, seeking anyone in need of medical care. They found the 25-year-old driver of the Chrysler with fatal injuries. With heavy hearts, they pronounced the man dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC was found with serious injuries, officers reported. Paramedics transported him to a hospital in the area to receive emergency medical care.
Investigators or working to determine what caused the Chrysler to end up driving the wrong way on Highway 99. Once they had finished gathering evidence at the scene, tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles from the roadway and crews cleaned up the debris that littered the highway.
