Santa Maria, CA (October 14, 2024) The community of Santa Maria was disheartened as they awoke to news of a DUI collision that claimed a man’s life on Sunday. It was 2 o’clock in the morning when two vehicles collided on Highway 101 due to another accident that caused traffic to back up on the highway. A 30-year-old Santa Maria man later died at the hospital from injuries he sustained in the accident.
Initial reports indicated that single-vehicle collision had occurred on Highway 101 and had blocked traffic. Officers reported that around 10 minutes after the initial accident, traffic had come to a stand-still on the highway. As traffic sat, waiting, a 20-year-old Dylan River Lossing came speeding down the highway, approaching the stopped vehicles. Lossing didn’t stop. He didn’t even slow down. He plowed into one of the halted vehicles, according to reports.
Emergency personnel arrived and the 30-year-old man inside the vehicle that Lossing struck, was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officers questioned 20-year-old Lossing and discovered that under-age driver had been drinking. He was arrested at the scene and faces DUI charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
