Apple Valley, CA (November 5, 2024) A DUI driver claimed a life on Monday, November 4th, and then fled the scene. 23-year-old John R. Akers was riding a motorcycle when he was struck and killed on Monday afternoon, just before 4:00 p.m. This tragic and senseless accident occurred at the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Iroquois Road.

Akers was riding a black Harley Davidson along Bear Valley Road, heading west in the No. 1 lane. At the same time, a black Hyundai Genesis was heading east in the left turn lane. The vehicle, driven by 30-year-old David Richard Rolph, made an unsafe turn, according to officers. He turned directly into the path of Akers.
