San Marcos, CA (November 7, 2024) The community of San Marcos is mourning the loss of a 16-year-old who was struck and killed by a vehicle. Yoltzin Hernandez was struck near her high school on the morning of October 31st, 2024. The accident occurred on South Rancho Santa Fe Road, near San Marcos Boulevard. The teenager was critically injured and placed on life support, according to reports. She was taken off life support and pronounced dead.
It was Halloween morning as 16-year-old Yoltzin Hernandez was walking near her high school. Hernandez was a junior at San Marcos High School and was a mere 200 feet from her high school, when a vehicle struck her. The teen was thrown to the ground, where she stayed, motionless. The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and waited for authorities.
Emergency personnel arrived to find Hernandez with life-threatening injuries. She was was rushed to a local hospital where she was placed on life support, according to reports. After a few days of this, her parents decided to take their daughter off life support, knowing it wasn’t how Hernandez would want to live. She was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to reports.
On Wednesday evening, November 6th, 2024, family and friends walked in silence from the high school to the site where Hernandez was struck. They shared stories and memories and left a roadside memorial for 16-year-old Yoltzin Hernandez.
