Riverside, CA (November 13, 2024) Tionte Eddings, 28, was tragically killed when the vehicle in which he was a passenger crashed on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Eddings was in the front seat of a sedan driven by a 29-year-old. The motorist was driving southbound on Sycamore Canyon Boulevard at a high rate of speed, according to Riverside Police. He lost control of the vehicle and careened into a tree a little after 6 p.m.
Eddings and the driver were trapped in the car, but firefighters quickly extricated them. Paramedics rushed him to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, but tragically, he passed away an hour later.
The driver of the car was treated for minor injuries. An investigation is ongoing; it’s not clear at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in this terrible collision.
Liability in a Riverside Car Accident
Speeding, as all motorists are aware, is a surefire way to make driving more dangerous for you, your passengers, and the cars around you. Since this was determined as a factor in this crash, the driver of the sedan is likely to be held liable.
California has what is called its “basic speed law,” which is a very straightforward law that says motorists must always drive at a “reasonable” speed based on road conditions. The law reads:
“No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”
Always make sure to follow the speed limit, and adjust your speed based on road conditions, weather conditions, and any other unusual factors. Getting to your destination a little bit faster is not worth the risk of speeding.
