Bicyclist Fatally Struck On Pacific Avenue In Long Beach

Long Beach, CA (October 29, 2023) A bicyclist was struck and killed in Long Beach on the afternoon of Saturday, October 28th, according to the Long Beach Police Department Spokesperson, Richard Mejia. The collision took place on Pacific Avenue at Wardlow Road around 3:20 p.m.

A man was riding his bike in west Long Beach when he was struck by a vehicle in front of the Metro A Line station. Officer Richard Mejia told City News Service that the man was alive when officers arrived at the scene. He was on the ground and had sustained life-threatening injuries. Paramedics at the scene loaded the man into an ambulance and rushed him to a local hospital for treatment. Sadly, he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced dead.

A woman was driving the vehicle that struck the bicyclist. She remained at the scene following the accident and cooperated with police officers.

The Long Beach Police Department closed Pacific Avenue at Wardlow Road so that authorities could investigate the scene. A SigAlert was issued to let motorists know that the roadway was closed, including off-ramps from the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway and southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway at Pacific Avenue. Motorists were encouraged to take an alternate route.

Authorities are investigating the accident to determine what exactly happened on Pacific Avenue in Long Beach.
