Las Vegas, NV (September 13, 2024) Tragically, a 23-year-old bicyclist was killed in a collision with a garbage truck in Henderson on Thursday afternoon, September 12th, 2024. The accident took place at the intersection of Parkson Road and Warm Springs Road, just before 5:00 p.m., officers reported.
It was a September evening in the community of Henderson, in Las Vegas, as a garbage truck headed east on Warm Springs Road. At the same time, a 23-year-old was riding a red and black electric hybrid bicycle in the bicycle lane, also heading east. Reports indicated that the bicycle lane was closed for a portion of the roadway due to construction. The bicyclist tried to go around the construction by squeezing between the barrier and the garbage truck. The bicycle’s front tire hit the barricade base and sent the bike falling over, into traffic lanes. The rider landed directly in the path of the garbage truck, officers said. The truck’s rear tires ran over the bicycle, destroying it and leaving the rider with life-threatening injuries.
The Henderson Police Department arrived at the scene and found the bicyclist on the ground near the mangled bike. Paramedics rushed the rider to a local hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he passed away at the hospital and was pronounced dead.
Officers are investigating this collision to determine exactly what happened. Anyone with information regarding this tragic accident is encouraged to call the HPD at 702-267-4911.
