Palm Desert, CA (October 10, 2023) A 33-year-old bicyclist, Christopher Thomas, was struck and killed by an on-duty Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy on Tuesday morning. Lt. Christopher Ternes of the Sheriff’s Department, said the collision happened at approximately 3:40 a.m.

The accident occurred near El Dorado Drive and County Club Drive, according to Ternes. He stated that the deputy was not operating his vehicle in an emergency response mode when the collision happened. Deputies tried to help Thomas, but he was pronounced dead at 3:47 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol was investigating the collision to determine what exactly happened.
