Ventura, CA (September 23, 2023) A cyclist was injured on Thursday when they were hit by a bus in Ventura. A public bus driver was arrested for hit-and-run following the accident, according to the Ventura Police Department.
Authorities said a 64-year-old cyclist from Goleta was riding along Telegraph Road near Joanne Avenue a little before 10:00 a.m. He was struck by a Ventura County Transportation Commission Bus near the Five Points intersection area in midtown.

Both the bus and the cyclist were traveling west when the bus hit the bicyclist’s handlebars, forcing the rider to fall. The cyclist fell under the bus and was ran over by the bus’ rear wheels, according to police.
Someone driving behind the bus saw the crash and stopped to help the cyclist. He suffered major injuries on the lower part of his body and was transported to a local hospital.
The 33-year-old bus driver from Oxnard drove away from the crash. A witness assisted officers in identifying the bus. Police contacted the transportation agency and were able to find the bus and the driver. The bus driver was arrested for suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
