Porterville Bicyclist Killed on State Route 65, DUI Involved

Student on bike struck and injured by minivan in Murrieta.

Porterville, CA (June 18, 2024) A person on a bicycle was sadly killed on State Route 65 this past Sunday.

Police responded to reports of a crash a little before 9 p.m. The scene was located around State Route 65 and Pioneer avenue. Authorities arrived at the scene very quickly, but tragically, the bicyclist had already passed away from their severe injuries.

The identity of the victim has not been released at the time of writing.

An investigation into the accident determined that the person on the bike was merging into the northbound lanes of the road from the center median. As they did this, they were struck by at least two vehicles. Officers report that the motorists were not injured in the crash.

However, upon further investigation, police discovered that one of the drivers who struck the person on the bike was under the influence of alcohol. The most recent update available is that this person has been arrested.

Porterville officers are still looking into the details of this tragic event.
