Reno, NV (May 15, 2024) A horrible accident between a vehicle and a bicyclist took place in Reno on Monday, May 13th, leaving the bicyclist in critical condition. The traumatic collision took place at approximately 9:18 a.m. on Old Virginia Road, reports indicated. The collision was so severe that it left the vehicle dented and broken with a busted windshield.
It was a sunny Monday morning in Reno, Nevada, as vehicles headed to and from destinations. Pedestrians, people on scooters, as well as bicyclists were commonly seen through the neighborhoods and on the roads. One this particular morning, at 9:18, a bicyclist collided with a blue Mitsubishi, while on Old Virginia Road. On impact, the rider went up and over the hood of the car and slammed into the windshield before falling to the ground. The bicycle slid across the road for several feet before coming to a stop, dented and completely destroyed.
The Reno Police Department, the Reno Fire Department and REMSA all hurried to the scene in the 11500 block of Old Virginia Road. They found the blue vehicle sitting in the roadway with a broken bumper, a busted headlight, a dented hood and front driver’s side as well as a busted windshield. The bike laid on the ground in a busted and twisted mess and the rider was lying on the ground, still breathing, but in bad shape. Paramedics carefully placed the bicyclist on a stretcher and loaded them into an ambulance. They were rushed to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries, according to reports.
The Major Accident Investigation Team with the Reno Police Department is leading this investigation. They do not believe that speed of intoxication were factors in this accident. Detectives gathered evidence at the scene and spoke to witnesses, as well as the driver of the Mitsubishi. The bicycle, now a mangled mess, was removed from the scene and crews cleaned up the debris from the roadway.
