Chula Vista, CA (June 10, 2024) 66-year-old Victor Keith Fields was riding a bicycle on the evening of May 29th when he was hit by a vehicle in Chula Vista. The accident left Fields with fatal injuries, according to reports. It happened at approximately 7:40 p.m. on the 805 Freeway, near the Palm Avenue off-ramp.
Victor Keith Fields was riding his bicycle on the shoulder of the 805 Freeway on Wednesday evening, May 29th. He took the exit onto Palm Avenue, using the off-ramp. As he rode south on the 805 Freeway, a Toyota sedan approached and made a right turn, hitting Fields. The force from the collision threw Fields from his bicycle. He landed several feet away, his smashed bicycle laid several feet from him.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene within minutes and found Fields on the ground, motionless. Paramedics hurried to his side, ready to give him life-saving treatment, but sadly, he had sustained fatal injuries in the accident. Paramedics pronounced Fields dead at the scene and called the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. The driver of the vehicle that struck Fields remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, following the accident.
Fields’ bicycle was completely destroyed in the accident and had to be removed from the scene. Investigators gathered evidence at the scene and took a statement from the driver of the vehicle, as well as witnesses. Officers reported that they are uncertain if drugs or alcohol were factors into this collision. They continue to investigate this accident in an attempt to learn exactly what happened on the 805 Freeway.
