Leimert Park, Los Angeles, CA (March 29, 2024) Chaos erupted in the Leimert Park area of Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon when a DUI driver caused a four-vehicle collision. One of the vehicles involved was a Metro Bus, according to officers. It all took place at approximately 3:40 p.m. on West 39th Street, not far from Crenshaw Boulevard. Nine people were left injured following this collision.
The Line 210 Metro Bus has picked up passengers and was heading to the next bus stop on Thursday afternoon, March 28th. It was a normal day of people getting on and off the bus at designated stops until a DUI driver changed everything. The bus was in the 3500 block of West 39th Street when a vehicle suddenly crashed into it. The motorist behind the wheel also struck two other vehicles on Weste 39th Street, officers said.
The Las Angeles Fire Department received the call and hurried to the scene where they found four damaged vehicles, including the Metro Bus. A silver SUV had rolled and was laying on its side in the middle of the roadway, according to surveillance of the scene. Officers had to block the area for an extended period of time firefighters checked on everyone involved and gave medical aid to those in need.
The driver of the bus sustained serious injuries in the collision and was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, according to reports. One of the passengers on the bus also sustained major injuries in the collision and was taken to the hospital. Nicholas Prange, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said they evaluated at least 14 people at the scene of this accident. Overall, seven people were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment for injuries they sustained in this collision.
Officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle responsible for this accident and determined that they were driving under the influence at the time of the collision. At this time, it is unknown if any arrests have been made. Investigators continue to work this accident in an effort to determine what exactly led up to this multiple injury crash.
