Santa Cruz County, CA (August 28, 2024) A frightening accident took place near Watsonville in Santa Cruz County on Tuesday morning, August 27th, 2024. A school bus and a car collided head-on, causing the bus to catch fire, officers reported. One person sustained injuries in this accident and the driver of the car was placed under arrest at the scene.
It was a typical school day for bus riders in Santa Cruz County on Tuesday morning. The yellow school bus drove along the bus route with more than 40 juvenile students. Suddenly, a silver four-door sedan slammed into the front of the bus, head-on. The bus immediately caught fire, according to witnesses and the flames quickly spread. The bus driver was able to get the children safely off the bus and fire fighters arrived with hoses and quickly extinguished the flames.

Paramedics checked on each and every student who had been riding on the bus, as well as the bus driver and the occupants of the other vehicle. They found at least one person with injuries, but reports indicated that those injuries are non-life-threatening.
Officers arrested the driver of the sedan at the scene and had to call tow trucks to remove both the bus and the car from the roadway. Crews worked to clean up the glass and debris that the accident had left scattered all over the scene.
