Riverside County, CA (September 10, 2024) Sadness covered Riverside County on Monday afternoon following a fatal accident on Gilman Springs. Four vehicles were involved in the accident and six people lost their lives. Four others sustained injuries in this devastating collision, as well. It happened around 2:19 p.m. on September 9th, 2024.
An impatient driver decided to pass the slower vehicle in front of them on the shoulder of the roadway. As the driver moved onto the shoulder and began passing the other vehicle, the shoulder began to disappear. The vehicle hit the guard rail and then slammed into the vehicle it was trying to pass. It then swerved back into oncoming traffic on Gilman Springs and hit another vehicle, head-on. A fourth vehicle was also hit during this collision and forced off the roadway. It came to a stop in a field and caught on fire, authorities said.
Tragically, the three people inside the fourth vehicle, one adult and two children, were killed in the fire, officers reported. Officers reported that by the time they arrived at the scene, all four vehicles were on fire. The driver of the vehicle that tried to pass on the shoulder was also found dead. Tow others were also found dead, bringing the total in this accident to 6. Four others were found with injuries and transported to a local hospital to receive treatment.
