SANTA MARIA, CA (May 4, 2022) – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office announced that Alberto Gonzalez-Lopez, 44, was killed in a Santa Maria car accident involving a semi-truck.
Mr. Gonzalez-Lopez was sitting in the back seat of a Honda Civic when it was struck on the left side by a semi-truck around 6:30 a.m. on Monday.
Three other passengers in the Honda Civic, along with the truck driver, were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center to treat their injuries.
The Santa Maria car accident occurred near the area of Philbric and East Betteravia Road where the semi-truck crashed into a power pole and fence, taking down the lines and causing a road closure that lasted for a few hours.
We at West Coast Trial Lawyers offer our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Alberto Gonzalez-Lopez during this difficult time.
Liability in Santa Maria Truck Accident
Truck drivers must take extra care in operating their vehicles due to their size and weight, especially when slowing down and braking. Losing control of the brakes of a semi-truck, even when on an open road with no other cars around, carries a huge penalty for the driver and the owners of the trucking company. When runaway ramps are used by truck drivers, they are issued a fine and are at risk of losing their jobs.
Anyone injured as a result of a truck losing control should strongly consider legal help as they may be owed damages for their vehicle, medical expenses, and pain and suffering.
