Irvine, CA (May 15, 2024) The community of Irvine was shocked as news spread of a hit-and-run crash that would eventually claim a life. 67-year-old Allen Yangkaou Lee received life-threatening injuries in this collision. He held on for a few days at the hospital, before succumbing to his injuries on Monday, May 13th. The driver who caused the collision fled the scene following the accident, reports indicated.

It all happened on Thursday, May 8th at the intersection of Culver Drive and Trabuco Road. Lee was heading north on Culver Road in a  2004 Toyota Corolla sedan, approaching Trabuco Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. As he went through the intersection on a green light, a Honda Civic ran a red light and continued through the intersection at the same time. The civic pulled out directly in front of Lee’s Toyota. Lee swerved in an attempt to miss the Honda and, in doing so, the Toyota began to roll and finally landed on its roof. The driver of the Honda didn’t stop, but instead, continued down the road until they were out of sight.

Witnesses called 911 and emergency personnel rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the Toyota on its roof and found 67-year-old Lee with life-threatening injuries. Lee was loaded into an ambulance and rushed to a nearby hospital to receive treatment. He clung to life until Monday, May 13th, when reports were released that he had succumbed to his injuries. Allen Yangkaou Lee was pronounced dead at the hospital.

During the investigation, officers were able to pull footage from Lee’s dashboard camera. The vehicle that caused the accident was a 2008-2011 Honda Civic that was either silver or beige in color. They also learned that the vehicle involved had racing style decals on the lower doors. Officers took statements from witnesses and gathered information and are now actively searching for the driver of Honda. They are determined to bring the suspect to justice following this deadly hit-and-run accident.
