FRESNO COUNTY, CA (December 15, 2022) – Ayla Gonzales, 24, and her boyfriend Ray Rodarte, also 24, were tragically killed in Fresno on December 10.
Members of the community say that the intersection where the accident between a big rig truck and Rodarte’s Nissan Altima occurred has been notoriously dangerous. The intersection’s surroundings are still sprinkled with debris from previous crashes.
California Highway Patrol officers say that Rodarte came to a stop at De Wolf and North where the truck had the right of way. However, Rodarte started moving forward and collided with the truck.
A Christmas-themed memorial was set up for Ayla Gonzales and Ray Rodarte in the area of the crash. People familiar with the area say that stop signs and other road indicators can be difficult to see, and that the intersection is poorly designed.
Other reporters have visited and investigated the intersection and have made similar remarks regarding the visibility there.
