Bakersfield, CA (September 30, 2024) A tragic accident in Bakersfield claimed one person’s life on Sunday, September 29th, 2024. The victim was one of three occupants in a vehicle that crashed into a canal at Panama Lane and Cottonwood Road around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday.
A single-vehicle collision occurred under the cover of darkness at 1:00 a.m. in Bakersfield. Three occupants were in the vehicle as it drove through Bakersfield. For reasons that remain unknown, the driver lost control and went off the road before crashing into a canal. The car began to sink, according to reports, and became fully submerged in the canal. Two of the people inside the vehicle were able to get out and make their way out of the canal. However, one person was trapped inside the vehicle, reports indicated.

Emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene and found the two drenched people, upset, near the canal. As paramedics checked them for injuries, officers closed the canal. Search and rescue teams arrived at the scene and hurried into the canal to try and save the victim. However, it was too late, and they found the victim trapped in the vehicle, completely under water. They pronounced the victim dead at the scene and the rescue team worked to remove the vehicle from the canal and free the body from the vehicle.
Investigators are working to determine what happened to cause this fatal accident. They are determined to piece together why the vehicle went off the road and into the canal. The vehicle was pulled from the canal and hauled from the scene.
