FRESNO COUNTY, CA (October 4, 2022) – Benedo Alfaro Vasquez, 22, of Mendota, was sadly killed in a senseless DUI crash on Highway 33 in Fresno County.
Gilbert S. Castro, 27, of Mendota, was driving his 2016 Chevrolet Equinox southbound on Highway 33 near Bass Avenue around 3 a.m. on Tuesday while under the influence of alcohol, according to the California Highway Patrol.
For unknown reasons, Castro allowed his SUV to drift into opposing traffic lanes when he collided with Vasquez, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The two vehicles collided head-on.
Unfortunately, Benedo Alfaro Vasquez was killed in the crash, while Castro suffered only minor injuries.
CHP officers suspected Castro of driving under the influence and arrested him for suspicion of DUI.
