Car Found Submerged Following Solano Crash; 1 Killed

Solano County, CA (July 29, 2024) A tragic story unfolded in Solano County on Saturday, July 27th. A vehicle was found submerged in water at the bottom of a cliff near Highway 37. Tragically, one person was found deceased inside the vehicle. The accident occurred on Skaggs Island Road, officers reported, the night before. Officers believe the vehicle had been submerged in water all night.

An officers with the California Highway Patrol was driving along eastbound Highway 37 around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, when they noticed a vehicle floating in the water below. The officer tried to get a closer look and saw oil and other fluids in the water around the vehicle. The officer reported the vehicle and waited for other officers to assist them at the scene, reports indicated. The officer also noticed power lines that had been knocked down. It was determined that the vehicle had lost control the night before and went over the side of the road, hitting power lines on their way. The vehicle eventually landed on its roof in the water.

Officers closed the eastbound lanes of Skaggs Island Road just after 7:30 a.m. The vehicle was removed from the water and officers found one person inside the vehicle. Many felt their hearts sink, as they had hoped the vehicle would be empty. Officers gathered evidence and continue to work to try and determine what exactly happened. At this point in the investigation, officers believe alcohol was possibly a factor.
