Los Angeles, CA (May 2, 2023) Today, the police requested the public’s assistance in identifying victims of a driver who collided with around 10 vehicles near downtown Los Angeles on Monday. Police Chief Michel Moore stated that 37-year-old Diosdado Tzintzunespindo from Temecula was apprehended on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and had bail set at $440,000.
Moore informed the city’s Police Commission during Tuesday’s meeting that an individual was arrested at around 3 p.m. on Morton Avenue in Echo Park, located in the Elysian Park area. He explained that this person deliberately used his vehicle to assault multiple victims throughout the Elysian Park and Chinatown regions of Los Angeles.

The suspect drove his silver 2004 Nissan Xterra and intentionally hit numerous vehicles, including some that were parked, according to Moore. He mentioned that they had obtained a statement from the suspect and would continue to investigate the situation. Police Chief Michel Moore believes that due to the traffic patterns in the areas where the suspect moved around, it’s entirely possible that there are additional victims.
The Los Angeles Police Department has identified over 13 victims so far, including an LAPD employee returning from a lunch break and a Department of Water and Power employee.
Liability in Los Angeles Accidents
Car accidents can result in serious injuries and fatalities, despite improved safety measures in cars. According to the CDC, over 32,000 people are killed and 2 million are injured each year from motor vehicle crashes in the US. There are many factors that can contribute to a car accident, such as speeding, distracted driving, inclement weather, dangerous turns, and poorly designed roadways. All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to prevent accidents, especially commercial drivers who work for the city.
California Vehicle Code 21801 states that the driver of any vehicle intending to turn left must yield the right of way to oncoming traffic close enough to pose a hazard. If a negligent driver works for a city, that city may be liable in the event of an accident. Employers are generally responsible for the negligent actions of their employees within the scope of their job duties.
After a car accident, it is essential to preserve evidence properly, such as taking photos of the accident site, seeking surveillance footage, preserving medical records, interviewing eyewitnesses, and conducting a thorough independent investigation. The family of a victim who died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. A car accident attorney can help accident victims understand their legal options and pursue compensation for lost wages, medical bills, and funeral expenses.
