Driver Killed In Two-Vehicle Collision On Highway 242 Near Concord

Two killed in head-on crash in Phelan.

Concord, CA (February 12, 2024) As the world was waking up, a life was taken on Highway 242 near Concord on Sunday morning. Two vehicles collided just south of Clayton Road shortly after 7:30 a.m., officers said. In a sad turn of events, one of the people involved didn’t walk away from this accident.

Sirens filled the air as emergency vehicles rushed to the scene. Officers said they found a BMW SUV and a Ford sedan sitting in the middle of the highway. Each vehicle had one occupant, the driver. Paramedics rushed to help both drivers, but unfortunately, the driver of the Ford had sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A tow truck was called and a sense of sadness filled the area as it hauled the damaged Ford sedan away. Officers aren’t certain what exactly caused this fatal collision but they have gathered evidence and continue to investigate the crash. They have asked that any witnesses or anyone with information to contact the California Highway Patrol. Officer Martinez with the Contra Costa California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
