Encino, CA (July 26, 2024) The community of Encino was shocked to learn of a pileup on the 101 Freeway involving eight vehicles. It all happened on Friday morning, July 26th, and left one person with serious injuries, officers reported. The chaos started near Hayvenhurst Avenue and ended with one vehicle overturning.

Commuters were traveling along the 101 Freeway in Encino on Friday morning when two vehicles collided, leading to an eight-vehicle pileup on the eastbound lanes. The force from the impact caused one vehicle to overturn. As the vehicle rolled, someone was ejected, reports indicated. The victim was seriously injured and lying on the roadway as traffic sped by them. Some good Samaritans in the area stopped to help the victim and move them to a safer location. As they did so, other vehicles rear-ended their stopped vehicles, reports indicated. This caused even more chaos and hazards on the interstate.

Sirens filled the air and flashing emergency lights could be seen in the distance as emergency crews quickly made their way to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found eight damaged vehicles all over the eastbound lanes of I-101. They found the good Samaritans with an injured person and quickly went over to help. Paramedics found that the person had sustained critical injuries in the accident and they rushed them to a local hospital to receive emergency care. It is not known at this time if anyone else was injured in this major collision in Encino.

Officers had to close a section of the 101 Freeway for several hours, reports indicated. Once every occupant had been accounted for, officers began taking statements and gathering evidence in an effort to determine what exactly happened on that stretch of highway. They are also working to determine who was at fault, officers said. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles from the highway and crews worked as quickly as they could to remove the glass and debris that was left behind.
