Fiery Wrong-Way Crash In Merced County Kills 2

1 killed, 1 injured in collision during police pursuit in Anaheim.

Merced County, CA (October 2, 2024) A tragic wrong-way collision occurred on Highway 152 in Merced County on Friday afternoon. Tragically, the collision claimed two people’s lives. It all happened near Los Banos on Friday afternoon, September 27th, 2024.

Initial reports indicated that a full-sized SUV was struck head-on by a vehicle that had just side-swiped another car on Highway 152. Immediately after the collision, both vehicles burst into flames, according to police officers. Dispatch began receiving 911 calls about the accident and the California Highway Patrol Los Banos Office was the first to arrive.

They found both vehicles in flames and had to wait for the fire department to arrive and extinguish the fire before they could safely get to the vehicles. Sadly, both drivers were killed in the fiery collision and authorities pronounced them dead at the scene.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the collision. Following the investigation, it took crews hours to remove the burned vehicles and clean up the debris and glass that had been left behind.
