Five Injured When Fire Truck Slams Into Stockton Home

5 injured in fire engine crash in Stockton.

Stockton, CA (April 18, 2024) Chaos ensued on Wednesday morning as a fire engine sped towards a call in Stockton. The engine was hit by another vehicle, causing the fire truck to hit a pickup before slamming into a house, reports indicated. Five people sustained injuries in this chaotic collision, one of whom remains in critical condition. It happened around 7:00 a.m. at the intersection of East Alpine Avenue and West Lane.

A fire engine with the Stockton Fire Department was traveling north on West Lane as it headed to a fire. Spokesperson for the Stockton Fire Department, David Scott, said the fire engine had its emergency lights on, as well as sirens as it headed towards its destination. A sedan was heading east on Alpine Avenue at the same time. The sedan went through the intersection on a green light, without yielding for the fire engine. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, reports indicated.

The force from the collision caused the driver of the fire engine to lose control and drive over the median of West Lane. It crashed into a pickup truck, causing the pickup to roll, officer said. The fire truck continued barreling across the road and into a yard before slamming into a house.

Police officers and paramedics arrived quickly at the scene. They found the drive of the pickup truck with life-threatening injuries. They transported the driver to a local hospital, via ambulance, where they remain in critical condition. Four firefighters were in the fire engine at the time of the collision. All four were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

There was no one inside the house at the time of the crash, but police officers said the house sustained serious damage in the accident. Officers had to close West Lane in both directions so detectives could gather evidence and crews could clean the scene. Officers said that they had to station police officers to divert traffic away from the scene. During the time that the road was closed, officers reported diverting hundreds of vehicles to residential streets.
