Riverside, CA (February 12, 2024) It was the middle of the night as vehicles headed south on Interstate 215 in Riverside. For reasons unknown, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on that freeway at approximately 2:20 a.m., tragically claiming one person’s life. The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal collision happened south of MLK Boulevard.
Five sedans were heading down Interstate 215 when, for reasons unknown, they collided. The Riverside Fire Department sent crews to the scene where they found the five vehicles stopped in the middle of the freeway, headlights shining into the darkness. Paramedics checked every vehicle, ready to give medical aid to anyone who needed it. They came upon one vehicle with an unresponsive occupant. Sadly, they pronounced the person dead at the scene.
Another person involved in the collision was injured and was treated at the scene by paramedics, authorities said.

The five-vehicle crash left the freeway looking like a disaster zone. The vehicles were all damaged and debris and glass were spread all over the roadway like confetti. Police officers at the scene had to close every southbound lane of I-215, with the exception of the HOV lane, which remained open. The freeway closure then created a traffic jam, officers said. Crews worked to clear the debris and glass from the freeway and investigators searched for evidence. As the sun began to rise, hours later, officers began to re-open the other lanes of the interstate.
Officers continue to investigate this fatal accident in an attempt to determine what happened on Interstate 215 that caused this deadly accident. They also hope to discover who was at fault on that dark, February morning.
