Salinas, CA (July 30, 2024) Four people were seriously injured in a traumatic single-vehicle accident on Sunday evening, July 28th. Officers said they received the call just before 6:00 p.m. and headed to the scene at the intersection of West Laurel Drive and North Davis Road. The collision left destroyed the vehicle and left the occupants with serious injuries, according to reports.
It was a calm Sunday evening in Salinas as vehicles made their way through the intersection of West Laurel Drive and North Davis Road. Suddenly, a vehicle approached the intersection without slowing down. It seemed the driver had lost control as the vehicle barreled through the intersection. It didn’t come to a stop until it slammed into the traffic control box for the the traffic lights, officers reported. The calm Sunday quickly turned into chaos for motorists at the intersection. The impact ripped one of the vehicle’s tires off and split the front, tearing the motor away from the car.
Witnesses began calling 911 at approximately 5:53 p.m. The Salinas Police Department arrived with Salinas Fire Officials and found the car in a crumbled and ripped heap of metal. Firefighters quickly made their way to the car and found two people trapped inside. They used special tools to free the two victims and found that all four occupants had sustained critical injuries in the accident. They were all placed in ambulances and taken to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas to receive emergency medical care.

Officers took statements from those who witnessed the crash and gathered evidence at the scene. They are determined to uncover what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the traffic control box. The destroyed vehicle had to be hauled from the scene and crews remained, cleaning up the debris and glass that littered the roadway.
