Hit-and-run driver flags down police before leaving pedestrian dead in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, CA (September 13, 2022) – Police today sought the public’s help to identify a hit-and-run driver who left a person dead in Hollywood.

The suspect was driving a white 2018 Audi S5 westbound on Sunset Boulevard approaching North McCadden Place at about 8:45 p.m. Monday when the car struck the pedestrian, “who was laying on the roadway,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver of the Audi continued west on Sunset and made a U-turn. The person then exited the car, flagged down an LAPD officer and directed the officer to the pedestrian before re-entering the car and fleeing eastbound on Sunset, police said.

Paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead. Authorities could not say why the person was lying in the roadway prior to the accident. The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An investigation into the death was ongoing, and the LAPD reported “alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor in this crash.”

Anyone with information on the death was asked to contact LAPD Traffic Division detectives at 213-473-0234. Calls made during non-business hours or on weekends can be directed to 877-527 3247.

Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.

Liability In Hollywood Pedestrian Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in pedestrian accidents. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “An estimated 137,000 pedestrians were treated in emergency departments for nonfatal crash-related injuries in 2017. Per trip, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to be killed in a car crash.” There are a number of factors that could lead to a pedestrian collision including:

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Driver distraction
  • Inclement weather

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. The family of any victim that died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
