Liability In Los Angeles Hit-And-Run Car Accidents
Los Angeles County has one of the highest instances of hit-and-run collisions in the United States. The vast majority of pedestrian accidents are totally preventable. This is especially true with respect to back-up collisions. There are a number of steps that drivers can take in order to prevent back-up accidents including:
- Drivers should check over their shoulder and rear-view mirror before backing up.
- Drivers should check their rear-view camera which is now standard for new vehicles.
- Drivers should get out of their car if they are unable to see what’s behind them.
Drivers that flee the scene of car accidents will typically be held liable through a criminal claim. The family of any victim that died in a hit-and-run collision may be able to seek justice through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and funeral expenses. A wrongful death attorney can examine the specific facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
