(Los Angeles, CA) A woman in her 30s was killed this morning in a crash involving a Lamborghini whose driver apparently abandoned the luxury sports car at the scene in Hancock Park.

It happened at 1:25 a.m. at the intersection of First Street and Highland Avenue, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison.

The Lamborghini, license plate 8XGF892, was traveling northbound on Highland when it collided with an eastbound vehicle whose driver was reported to be in critical condition at a hospital, Madison said.

Both victims were trapped in the SUV and had to be freed from the wreckage, which came to rest atop a large boulder, its airbags deployed, according to a report from the scene.

A passenger, a woman in her 30s, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

    Liability in Car Accident Incidents

California Vehicle Code 20001 states: “(a) The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident and shall fulfill the requirements of Sections 20003 and 20004.

    (b) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), a person who violates subdivision (a) shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison, or in a county jail for not more than one year, or by a fine of not less than one thousand dollars ($1,000) nor more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or by both that imprisonment and fine.”

Never leave the scene of a car accident you were involved in. Fleeing the scene can result in serious legal consequences, including criminal charges, hefty fines, and even jail time. More importantly, staying ensures that anyone who may be injured gets the help they need, and it allows for a proper exchange of information with other parties and law enforcement.
