MONTEBELLO, CA (August 1, 2022) – A motorcyclist was killed in a Montebello motorcycle accident after colliding with an SUV, authorities said today.

Officers were sent to Bluff Road and Given Place about 7 p.m. Sunday, said Michael Chee of the city of Montebello.

“Upon the officers’ arrival, they observed a motorcycle that had collided with an SUV,” Chee said. “Officers located a young adult male on the roadway with significant trauma to his upper body due to the accident.”

Montebello Fire Department paramedics took the injured man to a hospital, where he died, Chee said. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

“The driver of the SUV is cooperating with the investigation, which is ongoing,” Chee said.

“No charges have been filed and no responsibility has been assigned pending the outcome of the traffic investigation.”

Liability In Montebello Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists have a naturally small profile and are more likely to be overlooked by other drivers. Many collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous lane changes. According to California Vehicle Code 22107, “No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a motorcycle accident including:

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Driver distraction
  • Inclement weather

The family of any victim that died in a motorcycle accident may be able to seek aid through a wrongful death claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with civil claims. Failing to act within the statute of limitations may result in a permanent forfeiture of your rights.
