Multi-Car Azusa Crash Claims 8-Year-Old Boy’s Life

Azusa, CA (December 6, 2024) A devastating car crash that occurred in Azusa on Thursday tragically took the life of an 8-year-old boy. His name was Xavier Ocegueda.

The horrible incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. at state Route 39 and East Fork Road, according to City News Service.

Paramedics tragically pronounced Ocegueda deceased at the scene. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported that the collision involved a Honda Accord and a Subaru Forester. The circumstances around the crash are somewhat unclear: California Highway Patrol’s Sgt. Elizabeth Van Valkenburgh said that the Honda driver, who is the young victim’s father, was driving south on Highway 39 when he crossed into the northbound lane and hit the Subaru for unknown reasons.

The Honda driver was arrested, but later released. It’s unclear why at this time, but the CHP is going to present a case to the District Attorney’s Office to decide whether or not to present charges against him.

All four people in the Subaru were hospitalized with injuries that varied in severity. Two other passengers in the Honda were also hospitalized.

An investigation is ongoing.

Liability in a Azusa Car Accident

Pedestrian and driver killed in tragic Seaside collision.

Speeding, as all motorists are aware, is a surefire way to make driving more dangerous for you, your passengers, and the cars around you.

California has what is called its “basic speed law,” which is a very straightforward law that says motorists must always drive at a “reasonable” speed based on road conditions. The law reads:

“No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”

Always make sure to follow the speed limit, and adjust your speed based on road conditions, weather conditions, and any other unusual factors. Getting to your destination a little bit faster is not worth the risk of speeding.
