West Covina, CA (September 3, 2024) It was 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31st, 2024, when several vehicles collided on the 10 East Freeway. It happened in West Covina and claimed one person’s life, officers reported. The crash occurred near Azusa Avenue and caused traffic to back up on the Freeway.
Darkness covered West Covina as motorists headed to destinations on an early summer morning. For reasons that remain unknown, several vehicles, including a semi-trailer, collided on the 10 East Freeway. The damaged vehicles blocked several lanes of the freeway, reports indicated, and there was so much debris that it became a hazard.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the damaged vehicles in the middle of the freeway, surrounded by debris and glass. They hurried to see if anyone was in need of medical attention. and sadly, found one person who had been killed in the accident. Authorities pronounced the victim dead at the scene and called for a coroner.
The California Highway Patrol had to issue a SigAlert and close every lane on the eastbound freeway. It took hours to investigate the accident and clean up the scene. A tow truck was called to remove the damaged vehicles and crews worked quickly to remove glass and debris from the roadway.
