Chico, CA (May 15, 2024) A multi-vehicle collision was reportedly caused by a reckless driver on Highway 99 in Chico on Wednesday morning, May 15th. The head-on collision left one person with serious injuries. The collision happened at approximately 6:17 a.m. near Southgate Avenue.
As vehicles headed along Highway 99 in Chico on Wednesday morning, a gray Honda began driving at a high speed on the right shoulder of the highway. It seems that traffic wasn’t moving fast enough for the driver and they took matters into their own hands. Witnesses said the vehicle was speeding and driving recklessly. Before anyone could react, the driver of the Honda seemed to lose control. The vehicle slammed into a black Nissan SUV in the southbound lanes of the highway.
The Butte County Fire Department sent paramedics to the scene to help anyone who was injured. They found the two vehicles with major damage on the highway. They found the one person who had sustained serious injuries in the collision and took the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. The victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening and they are expected to make a full recovery.
Officers continue to work this case and are determined to figure out what happened and who is at fault for this head-on collision on Highway 99. They took statements at the scene and gathered evidence before calling to have the vehicles removed from the highway. Debris and glass also had to be cleaned before the lanes could be reopened to motorists.
