Hercules, CA (July 12, 2024) A fiery collision in Hercules left at least one person dead on Friday morning, July 12th. The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred just before 4:30 a.m. on the Willow Avenue off-ramp from the Interstate 80 Freeway. It all happened at the eastbound Highway 4 transition, according to reports.
It was still dark outside as vehicles traveled through the town of Hercules early on Friday morning. Right around 4:25 a.m., 911 calls began coming in about a collision on the Willow Avenue off-ramp from eastbound Interstate 80. Reports indicated that two vehicles collided and the force sent one of the vehicles slamming into a group of trees on the side of the road. A small spark ignited and the vehicle was suddenly engulfed in flames.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, along with the Contra Costa Fire Department, and could see the vehicle on fire before they even arrived at the scene, reports indicated. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly began putting out the flames. Once the fire was extinguished, they hurried to the vehicles to see if anyone was injured. Sadly, they found one person who had been killed in the collision. Before the sun even began to rise, authorities pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Officers began gathering evidence and are determined to figure out what caused this fiery accident in Hercules. At this time, it is unknown how many vehicles were actually involved in this collision or how many people were injured, according to reports.
