Victorville, CA (July 23, 2024) A cloud of sadness covered the community of Victorville as residents awoke to tragic news. A collision at the intersection of Amethyst Road and La Mesa Road claimed one person’s life and left another seriously injured, according to reports. The fatal accident occurred around 1:47 a.m. on Sunday, July 21st.
Most would consider 1:45 a.m. to be in the middle of the night. It was at this time when a black 2021 Toyota Camry and a blue 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck both approached the same intersection on Sunday morning, July 21st. For reasons that still remain a mystery, the two vehicles collided at the intersection of Amethyst Road and La Mesa Road. The collision forced the pickup truck to go off the road, where it overturned near Liberty Elementary School. The Camry was stopped, facing west, officers said.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene within minutes and found the pickup on its roof in the grass. The driver of the pickup, a male, was laying on the ground near the pickup truck. Officers said he had been thrown from the vehicle during the collision. Paramedics rushed to begin life-saving measures but there was nothing they could do. The man had sustained life-threatening injuries during the crash and sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Camry sustained non-life-threatening, but serious injuries in the collision, officers reported. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Police officers are investigating this collision and are determined to better understand what happened at that Victorville intersection. Tow trucks had to be called to remove both of the damaged vehicles from the scene, reports indicated. It took crews a while to clean up the glass and debris that had been left behind, as well.
