Rancho Murieta, CA (May 15, 2024) A fatal head-on collision claimed one person’s life and injured two others on Tuesday, May 14th, in Rancho Murieta. Reports indicated that three vehicles were involved in the deadly collision which happened on Jackson Highway just before 4:30 p.m.
The collision involved an Acura, a Corolla and a Tacoma, according to reports. The Acura, driven by a man, was heading west on Jackson Highway as the Corolla was traveling east. Suddenly, the Acura drifted into the eastbound lane, right into oncoming traffic. The driver of the Corolla had no time to react and the two vehicles ended up colliding, head-on, in the eastbound lane. The Acura then crashed head-on with a Tacoma which was also traveling east on the highway. The sounds of metal colliding and brakes squealing eventually faded and the three vehicles were left, damaged, in the middle of the highway.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, near Murieta South Parkway, and found the three vehicles blocking a portion of Jackson Highway. All three vehicles sustained major damage in the accident and debris littered the highway around all three vehicles. Paramedics rushed to give aid to those in need of medical attention. Unfortunately, they found the driver of the Acura unresponsive. Nothing could be done as he was killed in the collision. With heavy hearts, they pronounced him dead at the scene and waited for the medical examiner’s office to arrive.
Paramedics went on to check the other two vehicles. Both drivers were alive and sustained only minor to moderate injuries in the collision. Paramedics transported both victims to a local hospital, via ambulance, to receive treatment. Both drivers are expected to make a full recovery, according to reports.
Following the investigation at the scene, officers believe the driver of the Acura May have been intoxicated at the time of the collision. The east lane of Jackson Highway was closed for three hours as investigators searched the scene for evidence. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the vehicles from the highway and crews cleaned up the debris as quickly as they could.
