Palm Desert, CA (May 14, 2024) A cloud of sadness hung over the Sun City Palm Desert development in Palm Springs following a fatal golf cart collision. 80-year-old Sam Karagavoorian sustained fatal injuries in collision between his golf cart and a vehicle. This tragic accident occurred at the intersection of Mojave Sage Street and Bonanza Drive, right around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9th.
Karagavoorian was driving his golf cart through the county club community in Palm Desert on May 9th. He approached the intersection of Mojave Sage Street and Bonanza Drive, which is a four-way stop, officers reported. As he headed through the intersection, his golf cart collided with a vehicle. The accident occurred in a community in Palm Desert where golf carts are frequently seen on the roads. Sadly, the golf cart was no match for the vehicle and it was severely damaged, leaving Karagavoorian with injuries.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene which was located north of Interstate 10 and west of Washington Street. They stated that the collision was reported as a major injury accident. They found the vehicle and the golf cart in the middle of the intersection, and also found 80-year-old Karagavoorian with life-threatening injuries. He was carefully placed on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance, reports indicated. Officer David Torres reported that Karagavoorian was then rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment for fatal injuries. Sadly, he later succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 3:13 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured in this accident and remained at the scene. Officers said that they were very cooperative and investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in this collision. Officers are still working this case to try and determine exactly what transpired at this Palm Desert intersection.
