San Leandro, CA (July 22, 2024) A two-vehicle collision on the Interstate 580 Freeway in San Leandro left one person with serious injuries, officers reported. The accident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 21st, near the 164th Avenue off-ramp.
A black SUV and another vehicle were traveling along eastbound Interstate 580 on Sunday evening. Suddenly, and for reasons that are still unknown, the two vehicles collided. The black SUV overturned, according to witnesses. Both vehicles came to a stop in the middle of the roadway with major damage and debris and glass were thrown in every direction.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the two vehicles with serious damage in the middle of the roadway. They hurried to the vehicles, ready to give medical treatment to anyone in need. They found a woman complaining of back pain, officers said. They also found another person with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics quickly transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. They remain in critical condition, reports indicated.

Officers had to issue a SigAlert and encouraged drivers to take alternate routes during the investigation and cleanup. Officers reported that traffic in all lanes were blocked near the off-ramp to 164th Avenue.
