Santa Maria, CA (August 3, 2024) A cloud of sadness settled over Santa Maria as news spread of a fatal accident. The two-vehicle collision claimed two lives and left another injured, according to reports. It happened on Stowell Road, not too far from Bradley Road, right around 9:15 a.m.
It was approximately 9:15 a.m. in Santa Maria when a vehicle, headed east on Stowell Road, ran a red light. As the vehicle entered the intersection, an SUV was heading south on Bradley Road, on a green light. The two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection, according to police officers. The two vehicles remained in the middle of the intersection, blocking traffic. The collision also left debris all over the roadway.
The 911 calls began coming in and the Santa Maria Police Department, sirens wailing, headed to the scene. Paramedics also arrived at the scene and quickly checked the occupants of both vehicles for injuries. Sadly, they found two people, both in the SUV that had been hit, who had been killed in the collision. Authorities, sadly, pronounced both victims dead at the scene. The woman driving the vehicle that ran the red light was found with injuries. Paramedics transported her to Marian Regional Medical Center, via ambulance, to receive treatment.
Officers quickly began investigating the scene to piece together what happened at that Santa Maria intersection. They had to call tow trucks to come and remove both vehicles, which were completely smashed and destroyed, from the scene. A trail of debris had to be cleared from the roadway as well, reports indicated.
