Playa Del Rey, CA (June 7, 2024) The community of Playa Del Rey was covered in a heavy veil of sadness following the sudden and traumatic death of two teenage brothers. 17-year-old David Ceja and his younger brother, 15-year-old Hector Ceja, Jr., were both killed on Tuesday night, June 4th. The collision on the two-lane road left three others with injuries, according to reports.
It was mere minutes before 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4th, as 17-year-old David Ceja drove a Honda Accord along the 8800 block of Vista Del Mar. The teen driver’s 15-year-old brother, Hector Ceja, Jr., was also in the vehicle, as well another teenager and their elementary school-aged brother, reports indicated. For reasons that are still unknown, the Honda that Ceja was driving collided head-on with a Tesla SUV at approximately 7:55 p.m. The accident happened near Dockweiler State Beach, officers reported. The Honda sustained extensive damage in the collision and officers reported that victims were trapped inside the vehicle.

The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene and found the two vehicles with serious damage in the middle of the roadway. Debris and glass had been thrown several feet in every direction, littering the road. They found people trapped inside the Honda and got to work extricating the victims. Sadly, 17-year-old David Ceja was found unresponsive and authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. The three other passengers in the vehicle had all sustained moderate to life-threatening injuries, officers reported. The driver of the Tesla had also sustained injuries in the accident as well. Paramedics transported all four victims to a local hospital to receive treatment. Unfortunately, 15-year-old Hector Ceja, Jr. succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. With heavy hearts, the medical team pronounced him dead in the ambulance.
The other three victims, an 18-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman and a 30-year-old woman were all hospitalized. Officers said that two of them remain in critical condition following this horrible, head-on accident in Playa Del Rey.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department gathered information and worked to find anything at the scene that would help them determine what caused this deadly collision. At this time, they are working to determine if speed was a factor in this fatal collision.
