MISSION VIEJO, CA (May 20 2022) – A pedestrian was killed by a Tesla driver suspected of DUI on the 5 freeway Tuesday night according to Patch.
The driver of the Tesla was arrested on DUI charges, said California Highway Patrol officer Rafael Reynoso. The accident was reported around 10:51 p.m. near Crown Valley Parkway.
It’s unknown why the pedestrian was walking in the HOV lane on the 5 freeway.
The man driving the Tesla stepped out of his vehicle after the crash when a speeding BMW then collided with the Tesla. The two-vehicle accident was then hit by a third car, causing a stopped wreckage on the road.
One of the drivers was identified as a 29-year-old woman from Oceanside, and was also arrested on DUI charges.
The accident took place in a construction zone, where speed limits slow down to 55mph.
The names of the suspects and decedent were not yet made known.
