Three-Vehicle Collision In San Marcos Leaves Four Injured

Two killed in wrong-way crash on I-580 in Carson City.

San Marcos, CA (April 22, 2024) A three-vehicle collision took place on Sunday night in San Marcos, leaving 4 people with injuries. The accident happened right around 8:00 p.m. near North Rancho Santa Fe Road and South Santa Fe Avenue, authorities said.

A red Honda SUV, driven by a 24-year-old man, was headed east on South Santa Fe Avenue. A 22-year-old woman sat in the front passenger seat and the couple’s infant was in the back seat of the Honda. A white Toyota was also heading east along South Santa Fe Avenue, driven by a 46-year-old. Suddenly, a blue Honda SUV, driven by a 29-year-old man, started driving west in the eastbound lanes of South Santa Fe Avenue, reports indicated. The blue Honda collided with the red Honda SUV and the white Toyota.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department received the call about the accident and hurried to the scene. They found three badly damaged vehicles that were blocking the eastbound lanes of South Santa Fe Avenue. The area was littered with glass and debris, officers said. They began checking vehicles to see if anyone had been injured in this crash.

They first found the father, mother and infant in the red Honda. The man and woman had serious injuries, but officers said they weren’t considered life-threatening. They were both taken to Palomar Medical Center via ambulance to receive treatment. The infant wasn’t injured but was sent to Rady Children’s Hospital to be evaluated as a precaution.

The Toyota driver sustained minor injuries in the accident. They were treated at the scene by paramedics and then released, reports indicated.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle sustained major, but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla to receive treatment.

Officers are investigating this accident to determine what caused the driver of the blue Honda to drive the wrong-way down South Santa Fe Avenue. At this time, they are uncertain as to whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved in this accident. South Santa Fe Avenue had to be closed between South Las Flores Drive and North Rancho Santa Fe Road following the accident. Crews had to clean the roadway of glass and debris and two trucks were called to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway.
