Costa Mesa, CA (May 10, 2024) The Costa Mesa 55 Freeway was the setting of a chaotic three-vehicle collision on Wednesday, May 8th, that left one person injured. The collision occurred at approximately 11:48 a.m., near State Route 73 in Costa Mesa, according to reports.
A white Honda Fit, a silver Acura and a gray SUV were involved in this multi-vehicle accident. The three vehicles were all heading along the freeway, with no issues, when suddenly, they collided for unknown reasons in or near the slow lane of the 55 Freeway, according to reports. Traffic began backing up as the vehicles completely blocked the slow lane of the freeway.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene on the Costa Mesa 55 Freesway and found the three vehicles, all with damage, in the slow lane. A pickup truck was also stopped in the right lane, but officers were unsure at the time if it was also involved in the accident. Debris was sprinkled on the ground around the scene and paramedics found one person, a passenger in one of the vehicles, with significant injuries, according to reports.
Officers investigated the scene, gathered as much evidence as they could find and took statements from those involved as well as those who witnessed it. They are still working to determine what caused this collision and who was at fault for this three-vehicle accident on the 55 Freeway.
