Las Vegas, NV (April 2, 2024) The Las Vegas Strip saw a bit of excitement on Monday night when a vehicle failed to stop and crashed into a police car. A third vehicle was also involved and officers at the scene reported that two people, including a police officer, were taken to a hospital following the collision. It all happened mere minutes before 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of Paradise Road and Desert Inn Road, according to officers.
Traffic was fairly heavy on the Las Vegas Strip on Monday evening. Suddenly, near the Las Vegas Convention Center, a white sedan slammed into a Las Vegas police patrol vehicle. Initial reports indicated that the officer was traveling north on Paradise Road, with a green light, when it was hit by the white sedan. The driver of the sedan had failed to stop, as a traffic control device had instructed, and hit the patrol car in the intersection. A third vehicle was also hit during this accident.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found two people with injuries. The police officer and the driver of the white sedan both sustained major injuries and were rushed to a local hospital via ambulance. Officers said that no one in the third vehicle was injured during this collision.
Investigators looked for evidence at the scene and spoke to witnesses. They do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in this three-vehicle accident. The investigation is ongoing as officers determine what caused this collision near the Las Vegas Strip. Crews cleaned debris from the intersection as quickly as they could so traffic could continue.
