Balboa Park, San Diego, CA (March 14, 2024) Tragedy struck the area of Balboa Park in San Diego on Wednesday afternoon in the form of a head-on collision. A 67-year-old woman lost her life due to life-threatening injuries she sustained in this awful collision. The community continues to deal with the shock and loss following this fatal accident.
A 2014 Toyota Sienna minivan was heading north in the 3000 block of Florida Drive as a 2009 Subaru Forester SUV was driving south. Without warning, the minivan swerved and crossed the double yellow line of Florida Drive. It was just before 2:30 p.m. when the two vehicles collided, head-on, officers said.
The San Diego Police Department arrived at the scene and found the two vehicles in the middle of the road with major damage. Paramedics arrived and rushed to help anyone with injuries. They found the driver of the driver of the SUV, a 67-year-old woman, with life-threatening injuries and rushed her to a local hospital. Emergency personnel did everything they could but, sadly, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators at the scene determined that drugs or alcohol do not seem to be factors in this fatal collision. The investigation is ongoing and officers are determined to learn what happened on Florida Drive in Balboa Park.
